Now I understand why my dad is so obsessed with securing home (locking doors, turning off devices) before leaving

Life is already too stressful to afford the risk of your home having an accident.

I can't even imagine when other lives depend on you

edit: besides from crime, i was also refering to shutting off water tap, heat producing stuff and appliances in case of a fire/flood/whatever
