I thought for sure the 3/8 inch inset hinges would work but if i screw the hinge to the door, there's a gap if i connect it to the frame. Is it because I chose self closing instead of non self closing? Do I have the size wrong? Is the metal wrap around piece causing the gap? Is there a way I can make this style work?

The original hinges were fastened on top of the doors (like the H-L kind or H idk). I'm trying to avoid seeing the hinge on the outside of the door. I prefer the style I bought but am I stuck with no other options? I had no idea hinges would be this complicated. Please help.
