Advice on coming out at work
As title says. Context: I live in small town in Poland, the kind where everyone knows everyone . I'm almost 1 year on T and obviously you can see (and definitely hear) some changes already. The place I work is not huge and sorta divided into two parts: more of manufacturing type shii and office/print shop. I work in the latter part. Our director of the place knows I'm trans and said is gonna support me and won't let any discrimination happen. I have two big problems I don't know how to deal with tho:
- Some people I trust know about me but honestly I have no idea how to tell whole office? I was considering asking eventually our director for support or just do it myself and call everyone in the office and announce I'm changing my name (especially since I'm in the process to get it legally changed). But idk it feels weird? I don't know why but it kinda makes me cringe. And the other part of workplace is another can of worms. I heard some people saying extremely homophobic stuff. And also I'm not really talking to most of these people so I have no clue what to do with them. Sorta want to ignore the issue and let gossip do the job.
- Second biggest problem is as I mentioned everyone knows everyone, I have some loyal clients that regularly come to me specifically and known me for long time as my deadname. Should I talk to them individually when the come? It's so hard...🫠 it seems exhausting to explain it to everyone every time.
