I've been out of the oil industry for a few years and I was wondering what life is like for my former colleagues in the drilling service companies (Schlumberger, Halliburton, Baker, etc).

When I left they were moving more and more jobs onshore and the workload for those still working offshore seemed to be getting larger and larger.

Also, they stopped letting you live where you liked and started insisting you were based in Stavanger (or near wherever the main base was).

So, for anyone still working for service companies, did things start to improve or did I get out at the right time? And is it worth considering coming back?
