Spare wheel advice

After some advice/ideas

I have a Grizl AL7, I bought a 'road' set of wheels with the same cassette as the standard factory one and the same brake pads.

The wheels are DT swiss, so same hubs width etc.

They fit perfectly fine, no need to adjust the brake calipers but, there's something not quite right with the cassette. Shifting is fine, and the sweet spot in the middle gears rides fine too. But when I move to a higher gear (especially on the large front cog) it just feels wrong. Like it's crunchy/not quite in the right gear. It's not slipping out though so I don't think it's to do with the derailleur setup.

The other weird thing is when I back peddle, it just doesn't sound right and again, feels like the chain is crunching.

What might it be? This was all done DIY but fitting the brakes and cassette was pretty straightforward

Thanks
