Sorry, I can't afford a plumber these days or I'd do it. My washing machine has been leaking and I was able to figure out that it needs a new pump and agitator dogs. But my standpipe also has me confused. I'm not sure how it got this way, but suspect my husband did this quick patch years ago, and I don't know why. The chrome pipe just sits in the solid old trap. There is no threading on either pipe, and as you can see in the close-up photo, the chrome pipe is a little ragged on the end. It seems like there was once more to this setup. How does a standpipe get attached to this old trap when there is no threading? Is there some kind of kit I can buy?
