Hi everyone,

I have a PSP E1004 (Street model), but I’m having trouble finding a replacement battery in my country. Importing one from abroad is also quite expensive for me.

So I’m considering a DIY solution. I have a Samsung J5 battery that I want to use as a replacement power source. However, the original battery’s protection/board is missing, and I’m not sure how critical it is for the PSP to function properly without it.

Also, while trying to remove the old battery, I accidentally removed the battery socket/connector from the motherboard as well.

My question is:

  • Can I safely use a phone Li-ion battery like the J5 in a PSP Street?
  • Do I need an external protection board (BMS), or can the PSP handle it on its own?
  • Has anyone tried a similar battery swap/mod on the E1000 series?

I’m trying to keep it as safe and stable as possible, so any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
