Ok so I’m currently swapping my old GTI engine into another Mk6 gti because someone rear ended me and totaled the car.

My old GTI engine and ECU are stock

The GTI I’m swapping my old engine into had a blown up engine and tuned ECU. Idk what tune or who it’s by unfortunately, but I also don’t really trust it because the dudes engine blew up and his transmission was locked up for some reason.

I’m curious on what course of action to take before or once I put my old engine into this car. Preferably I’d like to keep my stock ECU bc it’s reliable rn and I wanted to get it tuned myself in the future but by my own choice.

I know I can’t just swap the ECUs because they’re coded/locked? To the cars key and vin number.

I’m just curious if it’s possible to send my Stock ecu out to get the immobilizer removed so I can swap them.

I think the ECU has to be connected to the car and getting power to use the OBD2 port to remove the tune or flash/do anything if I’m not mistaken so idk if I should put the engine in with the mystery tuned ecu just to start it and get power so I can get someone to remove the tune or send my old ecu out to get the immobilizer removed if that’s possible so I can swap the stock one in.

If anyone has any knowledge, advice, or experience with this I’d appreciate it greatly lol. I did all the work of taking the two engines out and now idk what to do next about the ECU.
