I feel like I can literally predict how actors are going to react in certain scenes now, and it’s starting to ruin the experience a bit.
It’s not even just about the script being predictable. It’s more like the acting itself has become predictable. There are these very specific expressions that show up again and again the scoff, the half-eye roll, the “annoyed but secretly soft” look. And once you notice it, you can’t unsee it. I’ll be watching a scene and thinking, “okay, she’s about to scoff and say something sarcastic,” and then… she does exactly that.
And what’s confusing to me is that budgets are clearly going up. Production quality, cinematography, OSTs, visuals everything looks more polished than ever. But at the same time, it feels like the overall quality of acting and character portrayal has gone down?
A lot of performances just blend together. Different actors, different dramas, but the same reactions, same delivery, same emotional beats. Even when actors are popular or considered “good,” it doesn’t always feel like they’re bringing something unique to the role. It’s like everyone is working within the same narrow range.
At first I thought maybe it’s just because I’ve watched a lot , so I’m just too used to the patterns. But then I started thinking there are people who’ve been watching dramas for years, even since childhood. So is it really just a “me” problem, or is there actually something going on with how dramas are being made now?
I don’t know, it just feels like even before a scene fully plays out, I already know exactly how it’s going to look and feel, not just what’s going to happen.
Has anyone else noticed this, or am I overthinking it?
