Considering moving out for the first time, need advice on renting/living alone in Indiranagar

Hey folks,

I’m 24M, born and brought up in old Bangalore, and I’ve been feeling like I’ve gotten a bit too comfortable living at home. I was a day scholar throughout college as well, so I never really got the hostel/live-away-from-home experience either.

I’m starting a new job soon, and the office is in Indiranagar. That got me thinking - maybe this is a good opportunity to try living independently for a while and see how it goes.

A few things about me:

- I definitely do not want a PG.
- I’m okay with sharing a 2BHK/3BHK flat with roommates.
- I’ve never really learned cooking properly because I’ve always felt some dishes take way too much effort for the payoff. But maybe living alone will force me to figure that out, that’s if i don’t get a cook!
- My family says I’m a picky eater, so maybe this experience will also teach me to just eat what’s available and manage on my own.

The problem is: I have absolutely no idea how people go about finding flats, flatmates, understanding rent agreements, deposits, etc.

I was initially thinking of trying this out for maybe 4–6 months just to experience it, but then I found out most rental agreements are for 11 months 🥲

So I wanted to ask:

- How do people usually search for flats/flatmates in Bangalore?
- Which areas near Indiranagar would make sense for someone moving out for the first time?
- Roughly how much should I expect to spend monthly if I’m sharing a flat?
- Any hidden costs/things people don’t think about initially?
- Is trying this for just a few months even practical?

Hi Everyone,

I’m from GSC, Bangalore.

We usually get a quarterly bonus which is paid 2 months after the end of the quarter. Q4 ends may and let’s say i finish may during my notice period but before the actual payout month ( july ), will i still be paid my bonus ?
