What’s the point of the DSPCA/NSPCA?
Apart from taking it donations and making it hard for people to adopt pets what’s the fucking point of them?
An injured cat appeared at my front garden. The poor thing must have been hit by a car, both of his rear legs are crushed. Tail snapped off as well.
It’s a Sunday, not one vet open. I rang NSPCA, they answered, I explained the situation and they said they’ll call back. They didn’t bother. Tried to ring them again few times no answer. All while the poor thing is trying to crawl away somewhere to die alone. I can’t bring it home because I have a cat reactive dog.
Now I don’t have the money whatsoever to foot a stray cats medical bills. But the poor thing looked so sad, I rang an emergency service vet who said they aren’t willing to take the call out because it’s not my animal? I have never heard the likes of it. I’m from the midlands, no other options for me to call. I even rang DSPCA, thought maybe I could bring it up to Dublin. No answer of course. What is the point of these organisations so? An animal in need and no ones here to help it? What am i supposed to do?Just let the cat die outside my door? It’s after crawling into my neighbour’s front yard but the house is empty there so not like anyone can take it in there.
I just hope it’s still there and alive tomorrow morning so I can just bring it to the vet but Jesus Christ I’ve never felt such frustration in my life. I get that these organisations are all volunteers and donation based but surely there isn’t that many situations like these in the midlands? Surely someone could have helped. Or am I dumb and naive?
Is there anything I can do to even help the cat or make it more comfortable? I gave it a bowl of water but not sure what else to do.
Edit: Thank you to everyone who offered advice. I had to drive 1.5hrs to get it to a vet but thankfully the cat is in good hands now. It’s just very frustrating how little help there is in rural areas I suppose. But again thank you all for all your help.
