How do I (21M) mange to get a book back from my (26F) girlfriend if we break up?

So I have this habit of always lending books to close friends and family. I have never had a falling out with any of them so I usually can nag them about getting them back if I eventually want to read them or use them again.

However, this time, I have a book I lent to my now girlfriend and I don't see it going so far, so I don't know how getting it back might work.

I've been with my current girlfriend for around a year now. 2 months into the relationship she told me about a book she wanted to read, and I had it so I lent it to her, just like I usually do with friends, not thinking about the possibility of breaking up.

Back to nowadays, we are still dating but I foresee it won't last much longer. She's older than me, and we're in different points of our lives (she landed a high paying job after finishing her masters, while I'm broke living on scholarships on my 3rd year of undergrad). She's also been a little colder lately, so have I, and we meet less often than we used to, so I think it's probably coming to an end soon, and it looks impossible to save.

The thing is, I don't wanna be a dick about it, but I want to get the book back eventually. It's a really good book. But the thing is, I don't want it right now, so I don't know if the most sensible thing would be to wait and ask for it after the breakup (that is probably coming soon), or ask for it right now, which would be kind of shitty as I know she's still reading it. I'm not sure if she'll give it back if I ask after the breakup so idk what to do.
