I've seen so many posts about guys being broken up with their long term partners, often high school sweethearts. Always comes as a shock. What they don't realise is that the female partner was emotionally checked out long ago, trying to make a relationship work that doesn't fuel them anymore. The woman is villainaised, but oftentimes she is trying to make it work until she can't ignore the dissatisfaction anymore.

And from the side of the men, they are terrified of being alone. I think most times it's not even the attachment to the partner that makes them cling to the relationship but the inability to exist without them. They oftentimes don't care what's best for their partner or themselves long term.
