Hey everyone! I’m looking for some advice.
I have a 2019 Subaru Forrester around 72K miles, and during a recent visit the dealer recommended replacing the wheel bearings for about $1,100.
The thing is, I’m not really noticing any obvious issues… no loud humming, grinding, or major vibration while driving but my tires are abnormally wearing. Maybe a little road noise, but nothing that stood out to me as a problem.
From what I’ve read, wheel bearings usually show pretty clear symptoms before needing replacement, so I’m trying to figure out:
Is this something that can fail “quietly,” or should I definitely be feeling/hearing it?
Is $1,100 a fair price for this job? It’s just the bearings and I feel like it should include the lower control arms.
I just replaced the cabin air filter, engine air filter and rear wipers today. What should I do? Can I also repair my bearings?
For context:
Some automotive experience
Mostly city/highway driving
No accidents or major pothole hits recently
Regular maintenance otherwise
Appreciate any insight
