TW: mention of politics
How do y’all handle MILs who are painfully polar opposite of you?
I’m very feminine, I’m into pop culture, keeping up with the occasional reality tv show, even superficial things like influencer goings on.
My MIL? Nope. She hates reality tv shows, thinks influencer and pop culture stuff is vain.
Here’s the thing: it’s totally fine if she’s not interested in any of the stuff I’m interested. But I always have to lie or exaggerate how I feel to please her opinions.
What makes it harder is she’s always trying to spend time with me and have a flourishing relationship with me but it’s so hard when we’re so different. I’m literally always lying about how I hate because I don’t want to get on her bad side - she’s an intimidating women.
On top of all that, when it comes to political opinions and “wokeness” she has me every day considering turning in my woke card because compared to her, I’m moderate. Politics is a huge part of her personality and she has the amazing super power to turn everything into a political lecture.
I understood she wants a good relationship with me but I’m so tired of lying to her about my opinions and interests to please her.
