hey guys I (17F) am in between two colleges and i have to make my choice this week. National college decision day is on May 1 (it’s currently April 27th).
The two schools i’m in between are Georgia State University (my state school) and Howard university.
Honestly i’m leaning more toward Howard but i’m still unsure. I toured it last weekend and I enjoyed it but I still have my doubt. My dads side of the family wants me to go there since I have some family that went there my mom doesn’t care as long as i get enough money to pay for it. I have gotten a scholarship from both schools from Howard I received a $15,000 scholarship per year but it still cost around 30k for me to go. I’m still considering it though because the alumni network is great, from the beginning of college app. season i’ve been wanting to go oos, and my family would love for me to go there. the cons tho are besides that one tour ive never been to DC and don’t know if id like to live there for 4 years. On the gsu side I don’t really want to go there because a lot of people I know from high school are going and I’d feel embarrassed to go there since ive told people i don’t want to go. I also feel like I work too hard in high school just to go to the common state school that has a 60% acceptance rate. The reason why I’m considering it though is because its cheaper. It’s around $10k and i got the 1913 presidential scholarship for $2,000 a year plus i’ll be in the honors college.
My dad did text me saying this though about Howard “Mom is going to try to convince you not to go to the school because of the money don't let her do that if you want to go there you will get to go.
And don't tell her I said that you make your own decision Daddy got your back”
I also feel like no matter what school I go to my parents will take care of the bill. (especially since my step mom is a lawyer and an alum of the school and is begging me to go there.)
Both schools have good academics (i’d be a data science major) so it really comes down to the social aspect if anyone has an advice please share in the comments!!!!
TLDR: I’m stuck between Georgia state and Howard university and need help deciding which one to commit to.
