I’ve been using Kindle as my primary e-reader, but I’d like to move away from the Amazon ecosystem.

I’ve done some quick searching, but I haven’t found many alternatives that seem to offer a comparably comprehensive catalogue. I’ve also seen a lot of people using e-ink devices like the Xteink, but I’m not fully clear on how people are reliably getting EPUBs for them.

For those of you who have moved away from Kindle, how are you sourcing books? Are you mostly buying EPUBs from specific stores, using library apps, removing DRM from purchases, or relying on something else?

I’d appreciate any insight into what the workflow actually looks like in practice.
