Jobs with Flight Hours

Hi all,

I am 24 and interested in joining the national guard with the aim of giving myself the best future opportunity to one day work as a civilian flight medic at the pinnacle of my professional career. I currently work a good job in B2B e-commerce sales and would like to get married soon to my lady. I desperately want to get on a fire department and have been looking to best position myself to do so and feel that the national guard may help to make that happen sooner, as the metro area I’m in is immensely competitive. I currently have my EMT certification from my local college and am soon to take my NREMT. I’m looking primarily at joining the guard when a 12M - Firefighter or 68W - Combat Medic position is open with my local guard unit(s).

Where my question lies is primarily based off of the conversation I had with a recruiter today: He mentioned that he would do what he could to alert me when one of those positions are available, no matter how long it takes, but urged me to “keep an open mind” regarding any potential aviation positions. He informed me that there are multiple positions within the Army National Guard, where I can be a part of a helicopter crew and get guaranteed flight hours that may help me sooner obtain a position as a flight medic, of course, once I have my paramedics license.

What positions within the National Guard attain the most flight hours as someone who is evidently not a pilot? Is he correct and thinking that there are positions out there where I can ride on a helicopter and have guaranteed flight hours of the course of my contract that would help advance my career goals?

Thank you for listening to my life story. Any advice from any flight medics or individuals with input would be greatly appreciated.
