Craigslist

Hi guys!

I recently saw someone say they found an amazing NF through Craigslist, so I figured why not give it a try 😭 I genuinely don’t know what I expected, but I definitely was not prepared for the amount of weird emails and responses I got from my nanny ad. Some of them have me laughing because there’s no way people are serious lol.

I’ve noticed a lot of nannies still post on there though, so now I’m curious.. has anyone actually had real luck finding a good family through Craigslist? Or is it mostly just chaos with a few gems hidden in between?

Hi everyone!

I’m curious if this is normal or if I’m right to feel off about it.

I recently applied to a Care.com posting listed at $28–$31/hour for 46 guaranteed hours. The interview process went really well, they spoke with my references and ended up offering me the position.

However, the offer came in at $24/hour, which is actually less than what I currently make.

When I brought up the original pay range, they explained that the higher rate was for more “qualified” candidates and that they felt $24 was more appropriate for me as a college student.

For context, I have 6+ years of professional childcare experience, including private in-home nannying, daycare/classroom experience, and working as a behavioral technician in an ABA clinic.

I understand pay can vary based on experience, but it felt a bit misleading to advertise one range and then offer significantly less after the interview process.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this common, or would you consider it a red flag?

Hi everyone!

I’m 20F currently living in Philadelphia and planning to move to NYC around August/September to work as a live-in nanny. Philly is only about 2 hours away, so I’ll still be close to family, which makes the move feel a little less scary but I’m still definitely nervous and excited at the same time.

I’d love to hear from anyone who’s made a similar move at a young age. How was the adjustment to a big city like NYC? Anything you wish you knew beforehand?

Also, I recently got into a car accident and my car was totaled, so now I’m without one. I’m trying to decide if it’s even worth buying another car before moving, or if it doesn’t really make sense since NYC is so walkable.

Any advice, experiences, or insight would really mean a lot! thank you!! 🤍
