I had a package shipped from Japan to Canada and the shipping option specified DHL Express (Priority shipping, trackable and insured, includes custom clearance service). I received a bill for duties and taxes along with a customs clearance fee. Now I'm wondering if they're charging the shipper as well as myself for the same thing and since I'm paying for the shipping fees, am I in turn actually paying twice? I can't find anything in regards to what DHL Express actually covers. Or is "includes customs clearance service" just a sort of empty feature like if McDonalds were to highlight that their price included bringing food from the kitchen to the counter.
