I have applied for a Belgium long-stay (D-type) family reunification visa.
Based on different sources, the expected processing time varies, some indicate around 22 weeks, while the official website mentions it can take up to 9 months.
In the meantime, there is a facility to temporarily withdraw the passport while the application is still under process.
My question is: during this waiting period, is it possible to apply for a short-stay Schengen visa (for example, for Switzerland, France, Italy, or another Schengen country)?
Are applicants generally allowed to do this in practice? What are the chances of approval or rejection in such cases? Would it be advisable to apply, or is it better to wait for the long-stay visa decision? Has anyone done it?
