What’s the BEST VR headset for watching movies right now?

I’m currently using Samsung Galaxy XR and honestly the display quality is amazing for movies, especially when watching directly on the headset instead of streaming through Virtual Desktop.

BUT… I feel like the movie experience ecosystem is still way behind Meta Quest.

Quest has apps like Skybox VR, Moon VR, Bigscreen, custom theater environments, better immersive cinema apps, etc. Meanwhile on Galaxy XR the options still feel really limited. 

For me, the biggest thing isn’t just resolution — it’s the “cinema feeling”:

- realistic theater environments
- curved giant screens
- dark immersive rooms
- local playback support
- smooth HDR playback
- spatial audio
- easy file access

So now I’m wondering…

If your MAIN goal is watching movies and getting the ultimate cinema experience, what’s actually the best headset today?

Meta Quest?
Galaxy XR?
Apple Vision Pro?
Something else?

And what app/setup gives you the most immersive movie experience?

Is there any way to download or port the Apple Vision Pro environments to Galaxy XR?

The immersive environments on Vision Pro honestly look amazing, especially the cinema and landscape ones. I’m wondering if anyone has found a way to use them on Galaxy XR somehow — maybe through sideloading, custom apps, ports, mods, or even similar downloadable environments.

Has anyone tried this yet?

I recently tried Virtual Desktop on Galaxy XR and honestly I really like it, especially the environments and overall experience.

But does anyone know how to access and play LOCAL files stored directly on the Galaxy XR through Virtual Desktop without using a PC?

I only want to use the files already inside the headset because direct playback looks much clearer for me than PC streaming. Is there any workaround or hidden method?

I’ve been testing movies on my Galaxy XR for the past few weeks using both Virtual Desktop and direct local playback on the headset, and honestly… I think direct playback actually looks noticeably better.

The image feels:
- sharper
- cleaner
- more immersive
- better depth perception
- less compressed in dark scenes

Especially with HDR and high bitrate movies.

VD is amazing for PCVR and desktop streaming, but for pure movie watching I feel like local playback on the headset gives a much more “premium cinema” experience.

I also noticed the theater scale and screen distance feel more natural when playing directly on the headset compared to some VD environments.

Now I’m trying to improve the experience even more with:
- better theater environments
- darker cinema rooms
- larger curved screens
- better HDR tuning
- more immersive ambient lighting

Am I the only one noticing this or do some of you feel the same?

Direct playback on the Galaxy XR actually looks MUCH sharper and more immersive than streaming through VD.

I really want:

Right now I feel the Galaxy XR has HUGE potential for movie watching, especially with HDR and 3D movies, but the environments could become much better.

- change the default XR environments?

- improve the sense of scale and immersion?
