My journey to make my own clothes has led me to things I like, but cannot comprehend
I love historical things, and I'm particularly fond of historical clothing. This has led me to follow people on TikTok and Instagram who create historical clothing for modern-day people. Split skirts and pants, dresses that lace up and this allows for growth and shrinkage of my body! (because weight does what it wants and I'm just along for the ride) I love the idea of making clothes that I love that I can still wear as my weight rides this never ending roller-coaster of life and, for the pants and skirts, I've found patterns! However, dresses that work in such a manner allude me. I know all about historical boning of corsets and whatnot but a corseted dress that can be let in and out with lacings? The structure, technique, and process do not compute. How can it be flexible enough to account for weight lost or gained but still be structured to support the shape!?! I'm sure there's a simple answer that I just don't see, but as I cannot, here I am.
Does anyone have any pointers or a specific content creator who teaches things? I'm always happy to pay for a pattern, just sometimes the instructions aren't plain enough. I'm certain I sound like an idiot, but I appreciate help and guidance from any and all who give it!
