Hi all,
Just trying to assess my options. I was involved in a very minor car accident where my side mirror was swiped by a car going over an embankment trying to get into a right hand turn lane at a red light.
We stopped and exchanged numbers and names but in my adrenaline state forgot to get his address ( I do have his license plate) He was keen to pay me in cash but said he was insured (not sure if this is true). I said I’d get a quote and text him
We get a quote for the damage and it turns out to be about $1500. I text him this and he offers to pay me $1000, which I obviously reject and start the insurance claim. I have asked for a copy of his license however have yet to hear back and doubt I will.
I submitted the claim, and now my insurer is saying I owe an excess. Is this due to not having an address?
I’m obviously keen to not have to pay an excess to then get refunded to me - is there anything I can do, like a police report, to get this information or any way I can avoid having to pay the excess myself? Or is it just a potentially expensive lesson?
Thanks so much in advance
