I've been talking with this recruiter for about a month, sending emails back and forth and having a few quick calls. Today, we finally had the actual phone screen. The job didn't have any hard requirements like 'X years of experience,' and the salary they listed was from $13 to $20 an hour. I told her I wanted $16 an hour, and frankly, she was not happy about that at all.
She launched into a long speech about how they want someone 'invested in the company's future' and that this is a long-term position with great benefits. The 'great benefits' turned out to be paid training, paid holidays, and 8 days of PTO. That's it. She concluded by saying they aren't looking for people who are 'just focused on the money.' I was honestly stunned and didn't know what to say. I mean, paid holidays aren't going to pay my rent or buy groceries. She still wants to schedule another interview, but frankly, I've seen all the red flags I need to.
Seriously, how does anyone expect an adult to live on $13 an hour? I met and exceeded all the soft requirements they asked for (I have a college degree, a clean background check, my own car for travel, I love working with kids, and I have prior experience with them) and I was completely willing to do all their training. So bizarre.
