Casing orientation help

Hi all! I’m getting ready for a DIY project, replacing old trim. Was hoping you could tell me which way this new casing is supposed to be oriented. Please bear with me if this is a silly question or posted in the wrong place.

I’ve seen it both ways online, and am now unsure. I want to make sure I get it right when installing.

One side is flat and one side (closer to the channel) is beveled. Option A shows the beveled side facing outward, farthest to the door. Option B shows the flat side outward, farthest to the door.

Which one is the correct orientation, A or B? Many thanks in advance!

Help with tile landing/top step to carpeted stairs transition

Hi all, longtime lurker with a question about floor transitions.

We have a staircase off of the kitchen, leading downstairs. The kitchen is going to be tiled and the carpet on the stairs will be replaced at some point in the near future. The stairs are all bullnose.

We want to tile up to the edge of the landing (kitchen), then transition to carpet on the riser.

How should we go about doing this? Should the bullnose at the landing area be cut back so it’s flush with the riser? How do we make a neat transition?

Many thanks in advance!
