Boiling in Top Rad Hose

Hello everyone,

I’ve had a 2006 Subaru Forester X for almost two months now and unfortunately, I’ve spent almost the entirety of the two months diagnosing overheating problems, everytime I fix something, a new symptom comes up and I’ve finally reached a point where I have no idea what to do.

Couple of things to bear in mind:

- HGs were done 6 months ago
- block test came back fine
- no bubbles in coolant
- no coolant in oil
- no white smoke from the car

Initially it started off by the car simply overheating and taking impossibly long to warm up when trying to burp, I figured it was the t-stat and changed it to an AISIN one.

That didn’t fix it completely, car still overheated, just took longer. At this point I’d noticed that my rad fins were always cold no matter what, even when the car was on the brink of overheating. This was supplemented by the fact that I used to find red specs on my rad cap (I assumed this is stop leak).

So I went ahead and changed the rad cap to a new OEM one first to which I followed up by buying a CSF radiator.

Here’s the part I’m completely stumped in. After doing all of that, a completely new symptom developed. While burping the car, the coolant will literally boil and rise all the way to the top of the spill-free tunnel and you can literally hear it boil in the top rad hose.

At this point, I’m not even sure what the next thing could be. Anyone have any ideas?
