Brand Spankin’ New; Need Advice or Insight

Hello,

I’m currently in between jobs and just got an offer to attend a “group presentation” for an entry-level position at Aflac. Training is supposed to be provided and it’s 100% commission-based pay.

I have absolutely no experience in sales or with insurance, and I’ll admit I’m not the best when it comes to talking to people. But I know that people who are successful in this field tend to make pretty good money.

I guess I just have questions, like for one when they say “no nights and weekends”, how accurate is that usually?

What are some traits I need to embody in order to be successful?

How long do you think it may be before I start to make any sort of appreciable income?

How steady can I count on the income being?

What do you think some of my biggest challenges may be?

I’d love to learn more about this field and to hear any personal anecdotes which could help me decide whether or not I’d like to seriously give this a try.

Thank you!

New Hire/Vacation Question

I started a new job a month ago. Small company, boss is a really good guy, and it’s pretty laid-back overall. We work Monday-Friday.

I have a couple of pre-planned vacations this summer and have already cleared the first one with him (asked off for a Friday and the following Monday and Tuesday). The second one is coming up in a couple of months, and I was planning on asking off for another six work days.

My question is, which request would be more reasonable/less imposing for a new hire to make? I was either going to ask off Monday-Friday plus the following Monday, or I was going to do two consecutive long weekends (ask off Monday-Wednesday week one and then ask off Wednesday-Friday the week after).

Not asking to use PTO if that makes a difference. Thanks in advance!
