Just got back from the vet! Since I went during his sleeping time and had to wake him up, Chanco was not in a good mood at all. He stayed balled up for most of it, but I eventually managed to get him into a specific position so the vet could actually see his bum. She noticed right away that the area was red and irritated, so she told me to put Vaseline there to help heal the burn.

She was very clear that this is NOT Coccidiosis because there has been absolutely NO blood in his poop. Based on the 2-month history of slimy diarrhea, she diagnosed it as a bacterial infection affecting his organs and intestines.

For the treatment, I’m starting him on Neomycin-25 powder. I'll be giving the medication in his water for the next 5 days, and I’m calling the vet back to get the exact powder amount for his specific weight just to be 100% safe.

I put him somewhere else until I clean the backyard and wiped chanco down and put him in a box with new bedding somewhere quite to sleep now, when he wakes up ill give him water mixed with the medacine.

Tomorrow I'm taking Chanco to the vet because of his severe diarrhea. I don't expect the vet to know the reason, but I did some research and Gemini thinks it's Coccidiosis.

I have had Chanco since August 2025, and he was fine until about 2 months ago when this diarrhea started. Even though he has this issue, he is still drinking and eating normally. He is being his usual goofy self and plays outside like normal, climbing and bumping into stuff.

There are no exotic vets here, so I might just go and get the medicine and feed it to him myself. Gemini recommends using Baycox (Toltrazuril) 2.5%. Based on his weight of 300g, the calculation is 0.18ml once a day for 3 to 5 days.

Does this dosage and medication sound right for a long-eared hedgehog? Should I be worried about anything else since he’s had this for 2 months?

Anyone gave their hedgehog a medacine before??
