Hi,
I had a root canal on Wednesday just gone on a tooth that’s been a problem for a while, by Friday I knew something was off. I have had 2 root canals on other teeth and neither felt like this.
Saturday morning I visited my dentist again who adjusted the height of the filling and prescribed amoxicillin and metronidazole, by evening my cheek had begun to swell quite quickly. Due to the extremity, I called 111 and this morning I managed to get an emergency appointment and had the tooth extracted, plus some incisions on my gums/cheek to aid draining. The dentist said at the time that quite a lot of pus came out along with the blood.
My question is how long until I see improvement in the swelling? The pain is surprisingly relatively okay now compared to what it has been, and I managed a good nap when I got home so hopefully that means the antibiotics are working somewhat. I know it’s only been 7hrs post extraction (clot looks good) and I now have the trauma of that to add into the swelling but I was expecting a more dramatic improvement I guess. It’s quite close to my eye so I have been monitoring that specifically for any changes. Don’t have a fever or any other symptoms. I just really want to get better, I tried to do the right thing by saving the tooth rather than extract and ended up here. I’m extremely worried about if I need IV antibiotics at A&E or something and that this is never going to go away. Any answers and encouragement appreciated - thank you!
36F, don’t drink, do smoke but I am avoiding during this time, obviously!
