Just took my moped into the shop Pronto (50cc chinese scooter) after it stopped suddenly going 25mph from accelerating full throttle. Has 5200 miles on it only 2 years old. I thought was CVT belt but mechanic says thinks pistons need replace

After inspecting he said he said the exhaust valve broke and punched a hole in the piston. He said he is trying to find the exhaust valve but doesnt want to open bottom half cause thats an expensive fix. Any recommendations? Is it still salvagable or do I need a whole new engine? Does this problem sound legit?
