Columbia Gas strategies?

Hi all. Looking for info & advice!

Less than a year ago, I moved into a new apartment. I signed up for Columbia Gas but realized I only need it during the winter months: My furnace runs on gas, but my hot water heater, stove, etc are all electric.

I hate that Columbia charges $50 to simply have service, whether or not you even consume gas. 😡

I'd like to discontinue service during the summer months in order to save money. Has anyone tried this before? Will I get charged any hidden, terrible fees to reconnect later?

On the Columbia Gas website, I see that I could be charged $52 to reconnect -- but this is if I had been forcibly disconnected due to non-payment.

Even so, I feel like I could handle $52 if it means I save 4 or 5 months' worth of fees in the end.

Thanks for any advice you might have! 🙏
