I recently had a birthday party for my 8 year old son. There was 20ish guest. I worked really hard on it. My nephew12 is known to be wasteful, whenever he’s at my house I’m always finding half drank juices or waters, but that’s just kids you know. I had made tater tot casserole, and my nephew had taken an unnecessary large portion which was also the last of it. I knew there was a few kids who hadn’t got any food yet. I asked him if he was sure he was going to eat all that and he said yes, his plate was already filled with other foods.

He had sat at the picnic table with me and a few other people, and towards the end I seen that he may of only taken a few bites out of it and was getting ready to throw it away. I told him no, he needed to finish it. He told me he was full, and I said that he needed to finish his plate and he should not of taken so much of it then. He was getting irritated, his mom stepped in and said he was full, and I said he should not of taken that much then and she said well he thought he wanted it. We got into an argument and she basically said she wouldn’t force feed her son, then told me make more food next time. We didn’t talk the rest of the party and she ended up leaving early.

As a note, I never make kids finish their plates. That isn’t a rule in my house, or anywhere I’ve been, but I checked with him to make sure he wanted it so other kids didn’t miss out. AITA
