Hi guys, I need some honest advice because I’m really stuck right now.
Current rig:
CPU: Ryzen 9 5950X
Motherboard: B550 ROG Strix
RAM: 32GB DDR4 3600
GPU: RX 6800 XT 16GB
Storage: NVMe SSD
PSU: Corsair RM1000 , around 7 years old
Performance-wise, the system is still okay. It can handle 1440p gaming with no FPS issues. The main problem is random freezes or BSODs.
The issue usually happens like this: the game suddenly freezes on the last frame, the audio gets stuck and starts stuttering, but the PC does not immediately turn off.it just stays frozen, or sometimes it ends with a BSOD , both have audio stutter. It can happen randomly while gaming, but the main symptom is the stuck frame plus audio stutter.
The issue happens very rarely in lighter/older games like Dota 2 or if I'm just browsing google/working. It mostly happens when I play more demanding games like Resident Evil Requiem or Sekiro
I already tried some basic troubleshooting:
\\- Tested one RAM stick at a time
\\- Tried different RAM slots
\\- Ran MemTest, no errors found
\\- Let my friend borrow and use my RAM sticks, and he did not encounter any issues with them
So now I’m not sure what the actual culprit is. I don’t have spare parts to test, so I can’t easily isolate whether the issue is from the CPU, GPU, motherboard, PSU, or something else.
My dilemma is:
Should I keep replacing/upgrading parts one by one and reuse the parts that are still good?
Or should I just jump to a full AM5 rebuild for peace of mind? Though DDR5 RAM is really expensive right now.
My fear is spending money on the wrong part. What if I replace the motherboard or RAM, but the real issue is the GPU or CPU? I also don’t want to keep doing trial-and-error spending.
For those who have experienced similar symptoms, especially with AM4 systems, what is usually the culprit? Would you still troubleshoot and upgrade parts one by one, or would you cut losses and rebuild fresh?
Also, if some parts are still good like the GPU, PSU, and SSD, are they still worth reusing, or is it better to start clean?
Any input or similar experience would really help. This has been really frustrating at this point.
Thank you, guys!
