Do non-visual books have more lax laws when it comes to use of other peoples' trademark/IPs?

Now I don't know if this is the right subreddit; I can't find a more suitable one. This is just curiosity, also.

Anyway, I recently started reading some fiction, and in this book, Mickey Mouse stuff is in a hypnotist's clinic, and it isn't a mere passing mention but it goes into detail on them, it impresses clients, and they have a conversation about it. Then there's a game of Scrabble which gets sinister, real freaky, and is a key point in the story, and that's not a flattering portrayal of someone's intellectual property.

Do non-visual books get a lot more leeway in this as opposed to comics, TV, films, and video games, which are visual mediums, with the latter one being interactive?

Do things like this in books require consent of the trademark holders? And if not but the others do, is that because books like this are not visual while those others are and that being visual change the law?

Another book described in detail a Chewbacca poster hanging in a girl's bedroom, and it seems to me it wouldn't be that simple to just feature it in films and TV.

I just find it surprising how books seem use trademarked stuff so freely compared to other media where it would be called product placement, has to be agreed with the holders, and they are protective of how their products/brands are depicted.

Or do I utterly misunderstand the laws?

Has a minister ever survived having the Prime Minister's full confidence?

Every time the PM says they have full confidence in a minister, their job is over in a matter of days or weeks. Seems the last thing you want hear when you work in a high profile government position is that the PM has full confidence in you. The latest example is Michael Mandelson.

Has anyone ever kept their job for at least the remainder of the term after receiving the PM's full confidence?

Did any of you think that the "You bottomed out!" quote was when the Shah of Iran confronted Tony about harbouring Vito?

Even after two watchthroughs, I misremembered that quote as this scene, not when Tony smacked Jackie Jr around in the bathroom after being caught with a whore.

It's a funny example of the mandela effect or something, because that quote would honestly go really well with the Shah confronting Tony over harbouring a gay man and that is probably why I misremembered it as such.

I wish the Shah said it with his usual lack of self awareness. Wouldn't have hurt to reuse a quote this once for this scene.

How did Furio ate the North?

Even Ginny weren't that greedy, and wouldn't have been able to fit 0.000000000000000001% of all that in her.

I don't expect to see him in E-Day as they were all kids then, but this mystery brother is a curiosity to me, he isn't even mentioned in Gears 5 when he is Lizzie's father.

I hope they introduce him in Gears 6 in keeping with the tradition of introducing a new Carmine. He could be out for vengeance due to his daughter's death and in keeping with the tradition of killing a Carmine, sacrifice himself to save others or to complete a very important mission, or get killed randomly. They could also establish him to be the father of Gary and that he was ashamed of his son.

If so I'd hope they show him alongside Clayton and give him the same voice actor as that would be funny to finally see.

What would you name him? I'd go with Derrick.

That trailer does seem to be something they regretted... They tried to hide her existence later on, although it seems to me most players forgot about her anyway as until the leaks, or until they met her in-game if not spoiled.

I wonder how many would have remembered her and that she has her own sections beyond Jackson if it hadn't been for those leaks.

I had long forgotten about that trailer somehow, didn't look at the leaks (Although a particular deranged manchild put Joel's bashed head in a thumbnail, making out he was killed for being a man. Why was I ever subscribed to those people?) and wasn't expecting to play as her despite her having her own sections in Jackson, melee combat and animations, and her and her crew being pretty humanised and not so bad for a bunch of villains.

I've never seen under £10 super cheap, mass produced, lesser quality, fish bladder containing, wine from the UK; such are all foreign.

Not that I'm looking for any, I recently bought this sparkling rosé from a local vineyard which was produced cheap enough to sell for £18 (Impressive in 2026 I'm guessing) at the farmer's market while remaining vegan to consume at some point with someone, I'm just wondering why there's no super cheap wine industry here like other countries involved in winemaking.
