GoldStar PSU Mod – Replaced 110V Transformer with 15V + External Switch
I finally finished modding my GoldStar unit.
I replaced the original 110V power setup with a 15V power adapter feeding two DC buck converters — one set to 5V and the other to 12V. I originally considered using 12V directly, but because of voltage loss/dropout issues, using a 15V source gave much more stable outputs on both rails.
I also installed an ODE, so the system now runs perfectly without discs.
For the power LED, I removed the original LEDs and resistor from the old power board and rewired them to the new 5V line so the original front LEDs still work.
I also bypassed the original CTL control wire and added an external power switch instead.
Sorry for the non-professional 100% DIY work 😅 but the console is working perfectly now. Honestly, 110V power is really annoying for me, and I wanted to avoid external step-down transformers because I’ve accidentally fried too many devices in the past.
