大家好！I am translating a series of telegrams from the ROC in the 1970s for a research project. I have about two years experience studying on my own and would rate myself as mid-HSK 5 in the old HSK system. For the most part, I feel pretty confident in comprehending the grammatical structure and nuances of these telegrams. However, something that I have found more difficult is learning how to read the handwritten characters.
For example, 與 might appear slightly differently in a handwritten format - perhaps instead of taking the time to write all of the horizontal lines, the writer might signify them via another vertical stroke. At other times 稱 might be simplified to 称 for brevity.
I think that with more practice reading Chinese, I could pick up these differences just through familiarity with phrase structure and grammar. At the moment, however, it would also be incredibly helpful to be able to refer to a handwritten font that matches the style of these telegrams, or perhaps a book or article which would explain the general differences? If anyone has any suggestions as to this, I would greatly appreciate it. Any other tips or feedback are also welcome!
