So I've had our 2016 Honda odyssey taken in to an independent shop for car work that I've liked for the past 5 years or so. Back in October I was hearing something wrong with engine so took it in. They said it was faulty spark plug so they replaced it. I think I had them replace all 6.
Then again same issue in January and we just replaced the one faulty one (for free since they assume it was something they did in October.)
This happened again a few weeks back and they realized it was the engine oil leak, where the piston rings are worn down and it leaks oil into pistons. So they said to go to Honda dealership.
So there was an extended warrenty, but that ended so the dealership quoted us $8000 to fix this. Is this the normal price range for that type of work? I also see people talking about just installing vcm thing (I'm sorry I'm not a car person so don't know much about this). And that can also fix the issue? The van is in really good condition and only 64k miles, so otherwise I really like it. But I'm not sure if I should pay that much to get it fixed, or just install the vcm thing or what. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
