Hi guys, I’ve mainly been an acoustic kit player who uses some triggers. Ive never owned a full electric kit, only an e-snare for a time. Due to a recent move and not having room currently for my Tama Granstar with a 24” bass, I need to invest in some tasteful choices of an e-kit. The caveat however is I don’t care so much about a drum brain because I want to exclusively use Ableton and Superior drummer. I also own a Roland SPD-30, and a Roland kick..KD10.
So Im mainly interested in a compatible e-snare and 3 other toms for a 1 up / 2 floors configuration. Im also going to need at least 4 to 5 e-cymbals or preferably triggers I could use with real cymbals that have mute pads on them. For whatever reason I truly hate the feel of plastic/rubbery e-cymbals. Being an old-school acoustic guy I just love real B20 bronze. I also want to incorporate at least two of the bar pad type triggers.
And I do realize I could mute my whole acoustic kit with mesh heads and stick to triggers, but floor space is a current issue. I’ve literally been envisioning how to get everything within 2ft of a wall if possible. Or fold out two sides as needed.
I also don’t want pads smaller than 10” though and nothing larger than 12”, maybe for the e-snare only and dual zone is a must. And I do think Id prefer all mesh over any rubber pads.
Regardless, I do experimental electronic stuff so, again, I need gear focused for that as opposed to trying to recreate 1,000 acoustic kit sounds in finite detail like a high-end drum brain does. And that’s why Id also rather use Superior on a laptop as needed. I also need some info on how to best interface these days, like with a DDrum module (which I have.. 12-16 inputs iirrc).. its been a few years since I had it all set up. Thanks for the help!
