How to "simplify"? - new dance instructor gave me this for homework
So I had about 4 group hip hop dancing lessons before this and about 8 bachata and salsa dancing lessons. I had a hard time working with people (not socially, I was just so bad both motorics-wise and memory-wise that I was slowing classes down and got self-conscious), so I got a private hip hop dance instructor with the express intent not to learn with choreographed dance (again, memory issues).
For the first lesson, he taught me about rhythm and isolation, so I practiced that for a week. The second lesson, we focused on speed control and absence, but he told me to otherwise do as I'd like. So I practiced going slower or faster than the music and allowing myself to pause completely from time to time. Other than that, I danced freely and ended up with a mishmash of what few techniques I had learned from previous dance classes. I sent my instructor a video and his feedback was to simplify.
I understand what that means with writing or art, but I'm having trouble understanding it in dance. I did ask the instructor what he meant, and he said he'll give me a list of videos to watch, but he tends to be slow at replying (sometimes takes a few days) and I want to practice now now now!
Can anyone help me?
