anyone switched successfully from Sketchup to Rhino? pretty fed up with SU

on SU Pro 2026 and LO 2026 on a 2026 MacBook Air with 32gb of RAM. I'm only on sketchup because that's what our other drafter uses but I've been given the go ahead to switch to something else.

FWIW I design furniture, millwork, cabinetry, metalwork like handrails and stairs, etc, for high end custom residential construction. also do the shop drawings. so I'm in the software all day every day.

constant, constant, crashes. like 15 times a day. different scenarios. I've done like 10 support tickets with Trimble and they have been no help at all. I dont have problems with any other software. I'm not saving to the cloud. I have tons of free hard drive space. Ive already reinstalled it many, many times.

I also absolutely despise the SU UI on Mac. I just want one window where all the tools are in the same place every time (and yes I've already done templates and "save current window size"). Especially since I use 2 monitors, which causes erratic behavior from SU. I also hate that things like Bézier curves and 2d fillets/chamfers require plugins.

I was primarily on Rhino back in like Rhino 5, on windows. there are some things I prefer about sketchup and layouts to rhino, but I think going back to having one consistent locked UI window and a command line and all the tools I need and owning the software outright are probably worth it. There are also many things about the workflow in Rhino I prefer.

One thing I'm not pumped about with Rhino is that the views in layout don't update if you change the model. which happens often because I have picky high maintenance clients that have "making aesthetic decisions about my 4th home" as their full time hobby. Trimble Layout does many things that get on my goddamn nerves but being able to update the model is super helpful.

▲ 9 r/GERD

Have had GERD pretty bad for about 6 months now. could use some advice.

hey folks. so I live in a super remote town where it's hard to get healthcare. I have a remote doc that helps some with prescriptions. I'm waiting to get seen for this but I'm months out.

Around early November last year, I started having a really bad chronic cough. I could not figure it out. I thought I had long term covid or something. Then a really stressful thing in my life stopped and the cough went away for a while unless I ate fried food, and then it came back. so my doc said it was prob GERD. I started taking omeprazole and not eating pizza or fried food, etc. the cough went away for a couple months. I was a dumbass and figured I was "better", so I started eating like shit again. coffee, pizza, burgers, fries, pastries, soda, etc.

One day I got done mountain biking and I was starving so I got one of those packs of sliced cheese squares and some crackers and ate the whole block of cheese on the way home. I've been coughing ever since.

so here's my current situation: I have been coughing constantly for about a month now. off and on for about 5 months. I cut out pizza and fried foods completely, but I'm still drinking 1-2 cups of coffee in the morning. I cut out most dairy. I cut wayyyy back on fatty meats. I cut out all forms of tomatoes and spicy foods. I cut the size of my meals way down. I don't eat within a few hours of going to bed. I take 80mg of omeprazole in the morning, as well as some famotidine. despite this, my GERD seems to be getting worse. I'm coughing A LOT in the evenings, and now I'm getting hoarse and losing my voice.

I am about 20 lbs overweight, fwiw.

my day usually looks like this:

  • wake up at 7, take meds, have coffee, eat some oatmeal or toast with fake butter and jam. I usually cough some in the morning.
  • go to work. have bananas or fig bars for snacks at work. I usually get more coffee on my way to work. dont really cough at work but I have a mild heartburn feeling.
  • lunch break. usually a veggie burger on some wheat bread with hummus and spinach. usually cough some after I eat.
  • back to work. maybe another banana. more mild heartburn feeling.
  • go mountain biking for an hour or two after work. weirdly I dont cough AT ALL while riding my bike, but literally the second I get off the bike I start coughing again, and cough the rest of the evening.
  • go home and make dinner. salmon or veggie burger or a salad or something. maybe a lean beef patty or a baked chicken breast.
  • sit on the couch and play PS5 until I go to bed around 11 or 12.

on weekends, I wake up a little later, sit on the couch for a while with my coffee and the internet, and then go mountain biking for 35 miles or so, then come home and eat a veggie burrito or something similar. again, mild coughing in the morning, no coughing at all while riding, then bad coughing and heartburn when I get home and for the rest of the evening.

any advice would be much appreciated. the GERD seems to be getting worse rather than better. I'm getting really hoarse the last few days. FWIW I am pretty stressed about a few things which isn't helping.
