AITA for not covering my coworker’s shift after she lied about why she needed it?
So I (16F) work part-time at a small ice cream shop after school. It’s usually pretty chill, but scheduling can get messy because most of us are students.
Last weekend, one of my coworkers, “Maya” (17F), texted me asking if I could cover her shift. She said it was really important because it was a “family emergency.” I didn’t really want to because I already had plans with my friends, but I felt bad and agreed.
I canceled my plans and worked her 6-hour shift.
While I was working, one of my friends sent me a Snapchat… and guess who was in the background? Maya. At the mall. Shopping and hanging out like nothing was wrong.
I didn’t say anything right away because I didn’t want drama at work. But the next day she thanked me again and said, “Things are still crazy at home.” That kind of annoyed me, so I just said, “I saw your story at the mall yesterday.”
She went quiet and then said it “wasn’t a big deal” and that she “just needed a break.” But like… she could’ve just said that?? I might’ve still said no, but at least she wouldn’t have lied.
Now she’s acting like I embarrassed her because I mentioned it in front of one other coworker (not loudly, just in conversation). A couple people at work are saying I should’ve just let it go since I already did the shift.
But I feel like if you lie to someone to get them to help you, you can’t be mad when they call you out.
So… AITA?
