The twentieth second century. Twenty years ago something in the world unraveled. Not like a ditch flower blooming. No, there was no beauty or color. What bloomed instead was madness and the forced removal of laws that we once thought dictated how our world worked. it let something in. In less than a decade we were on the decline. Entire families and communities simply disappearing... or worse, being found.
They're called fluctuations. Ripples in the world that make no sense. Uprooted floating trees, clouds that stay still for days on end, street dogs that forget they died two days ago. And that's just the minor fluctuations. The bad ones? That's the stuff that makes you claw out your own eyes. Let's just say the madhouses are usually full.
But all that hardly matters now. It's just the new normal. Technology was invented to counter this, to mixed results. Bulwarks were erected around the major cities to try and preserve what little we could, but fluctuations still manage to get in sometimes. Smaller towns and communities where left to fend for themselves. It's no surprise that we can sometimes here them calling in our dreams.
All that to say, going outside of the city zones are near suicidal to the average joe. But your not a joe, your a Joe. Get it? This Joe is capitalized? Meaning your important? ...Forget it. Lets keep going.
With ought many ways to make money inside the city, many choose to go outside under contracts to work. And one of the hot picks? PMC's. As a PMC outside of cities, you'll be doing a mix of things. Exploring Fluctuations, putting down changed wildlife, defending other contactors, the list goes on. But all that's tame compared to the newest gig you find yourself offered. Contractors are suicidal. But this? This is something else.
