Hi I was talking about this topic with my friend. I wear the hijab, sometimes I show some of my neck, some of hair, sometimes wear short sleeves etc. I don’t really think how much I’m covered up represents my imaan, and I’m not too hard on myself for doing those things.

I just wanted to get other people’s opinions on why the hijab ‘uniform’ has become so strict, from what I know in the Quran it says to cover the chest but not explicitly covering the hair.

Also when I look back at photos of my mum and grandma (south asian) they didn’t really wear hijab, but instead dupatta which like a loose scarf covering their chest and some of their hair. But then now a days everyone says you need to cover all your hair, which requires under caps, which they didn’t have before so I just don’t get why it is so strict now. There has always been an element of modesty like covering chest area, long tops which tie in with culture as well, but then now it’s soo much more stricter.

Can anyone enlighten me?

Hello, I’m so happy to say the I had passed today FOURTH time round. For a little bit of context, my main issues when driving where my anxious responses, I would constantly be inflight mode when driving, speeding round corners, taking risks etc not because I was overconfident but really because I was anxious.

Aside from the usual tips about breathing, eating a banana, remedy drops etc I would say the biggest tip that helped me when preparing for my lessons and also going into my test is reframing my negative thought which were mostly ‘I’m a bad driver’, ‘I’m always making mistakes etc to instead ‘I am a safe driver’, ‘I am a confident driver’, ‘I take my time’, along those sort of lines, and as corny as it might sound, I genuinely had a day and night difference of the quality of my driving.

For the actual test, luckily I did have quite a nice examiners as he was very chatty, but I would also say speaking out really does help and also make the examiner aware of what is going through your mind.

I also passed with 0 minors which is crazy considering my first 3, the examiners had to take control of the car!

Also another thing I will add is don’t be afraid to switch instructors, I had the same instructor for the first three times and it’s not that he was a bad instructor, it’s just after you spend so many hours with one instructor they can sometime become more lenient with you, look over certain mistakes o a fresh pair of eyes is handy. It can be hard since it almost feels like you have a loyalty to your instructor but having a new instructor definitely also played a part.
