Golf Simulator Help
Hey everyone,
I’m currently in the process of building out a golf simulator in my three-car garage and could use some collective wisdom on a few specific constraints I’m hitting.
The Space:
Ceilings: 15+ feet (no issues with swing clearance).
Depth: 20 feet (plenty of room for launch monitors).
The Problem: Because of the garage door tracks, my enclosure/screen height is capped at 7 feet.
The Dilemma: Aspect Ratio & Screen
With only 7 feet of vertical room but plenty of width, I’m torn on the aspect ratio.
4:3 vs 16:9: If I go 16:9, a 7ft tall screen would be about 12.5ft wide. If I go 4:3, it’s only about 9.3ft wide.
Does anyone have experience hitting into a "short and wide" screen?
Is 7 feet high enough to catch wedges, or am I going to be hitting the ceiling/tracks constantly?
The Budget & Tech ($2k Total):
I’m looking at about $1k for the enclosure materials, leaving me $1k for the launch monitor and projector.
Launch Monitor: I’ve been looking at the Rapsodo MLM2PRO. Since I have 20 feet of depth, I have the required space for a radar-based unit. Any other recommendations in that $500–$700 range?
Projector: I’m stuck on whether I need a short throw or a standard throw.
Given the 7ft height limit, I’m worried about shadows if the projector is too far back, but I also don't want to hit the projector with a high wedge shot.
Software: Any preferences for casual play vs. game improvement on a budget?
I'd love to hear from anyone who has dealt with low-hanging tracks or anyone who has built a "budget" setup that actually holds up. What am I forgetting? What should I watch out for?
Thanks in advance for the help!
