I38F have 3 children who like to play in the backyard. I have a trailer in my backyard my sister rents. We usually get along great, but she has recently got her medical marijuana card for pain management. She loves it, and I am happy for her as long as it helps. My issue is the strong smell. When I step outside I can smell it if she’s smoking it even if she’s inside. I also know she prefers to sit on the porch and smoke it which is also fine with me. I just had asked her if she could not smoke it when my kids are outside, because I don’t want them to be exposed to the smell, or exposed to it at all. If she sits outside they sometimes go over to her to hangout with her.
When I asked her this she said they wouldn’t get high from it and I didn’t need to worry about it. I said it’s not just about it, but I don’t want them to be exposed to it at all. She said I had no right to ask her to not smoke inside or outside when she pays me rent. I said only when the kids are outside that’s my only request. She then said sometimes my kids are outside for hours and her pain isn’t on a time schedule. We got into an argument about it, and she’s been avoiding me.
My husband agrees with her, he says it shouldn’t be an issue as long as she’s not blowing it in their faces and that I needed to chill out. I just don’t understand why she thinks it’s okay to do it around children. AITA
