Overview: An advanced combat rifle based heavily off of the classic Armalite rifle platform with various highly advanced upgrades which adapt the weapon for use in the 27th Century.
Specs: Firing from 30 round magazines and chambered in 5.56x45mm Martian, the ARX-601A2 features an MX-380 Advanced Digital Ammunition Counter built into the carry handle rigged up by cable to a sensor just ahead of the gas block, tritium night sights (ghost ring rear aperture sight and front post), a 20 inch rifled barrel, an adjustable stock, an advanced hydraulic-assisted recoil control system to mitigate recoil, large ambidextrous fire controls, a large trigger guard for use with gloves, and an impressive fire rate of 900 rounds per minute (semiautomatic) and 2100 rounds per minute (5 shot hyper burst). In addition to hyperburst and semiautomatic capabilities, a vacuum-rated heat sink was built into the handguard to keep the weapon operation in a vacuum, a lightweight flash suppressor and gas containment device was fitted to the muzzle, and the weapon used silicone based lubricant alongside solid Molybdenum disulfide in order to keep the weapon running smoothly both in and out of atmosphere. While the main frame is constructed of Carbon Fiber plus Polyether Ether Ketone (or PEEK+CF) aerospace polymer with metallic reinforcements, all of the major metal components are made with Grade 5 titanium alloys paired with cobalt alloy wear inserts on all locking and camming surfaces that allow the weapon to survive combat in harsh environments from Europa, to the vacuum of space, and to the surfaces of earth-like exoplanets.
