From what we have seen so far, even when the people die in this place, their soul or whatever it is, still remains there and can connect with people. The 7 children are dead but they can still be seen by Tabitha and Jade and they are still trying to be "free". In the same way, we have seen Khatri, Tom and now Jim, talking with Boyd, Jade and Ethan; respectively. Some of the most important decisions taken by Boyd and Jade were influenced by the dead. And now Jim is doing the same with Ethan but what's different here is that Jim has given a specific task to Ethan. But I don't think the dead have any extra information regarding the place and its nature just because they are dead. So Jim telling Ethan about the lake of tears could be related to something he figured out while he was alive and now he wants to direct Ethan into that direction. Anyway this show is hella confusing man, I just feel like Jade complaining to the children about this matter 😭

I just rewatched the last episode from S3. And the way he talked with Jim, "I tried to warn you", "Your wife shouldn't have dug that hole, Jim". I think Ethan is not the MIY. It's just a theory tho.
