
I have a question about Danish feriepenge rules and would like to hear how others interpret it.
I have 21 days of accrued holiday pay from two previous employers (Company X and Company Y). I have since changed jobs again.
From what I understand, there are cases where you can cash out feriepenge without actually taking holiday, depending on when your employment ended and the holiday period rules.
The issue is that my new employer will not allow me to take the full 21 days of unpaid leave, so I can’t realistically “use” the days as holiday.
In my case:
One employment ended in 2025 (with severance paid until 2026)
Another ended in 2026
It seems like I may have to wait until around 2027 before I can freely withdraw the money without taking vacation days.
My questions are:
Is this how others understand the rules as well?
If I don’t claim the money in the first available window, what actually happens to it?
Does it just stay in FerieKonto until you withdraw it, or can it be moved elsewhere over time?
Would appreciate any insights from people who’ve dealt with this before.
