Hi all,

I have an overseas Chemical Engineering degree which is accredited via the Washington accords. I spent one year working overseas as a chemical engineer and have spent the subsequent 5 years working in “energy modelling”. 3/5 of these years of experience has been in Australia. My work is related to engineering, involving the modelling of power plants, the grid etc. but is by no means a definitive engineering role and is most closely related to electrical engineering in any case. There is a small amount of chemical engineering relevance, where I have modelled gas plants, looked at heat rate curves etc.

I am unsure on how best to proceed with a 189/190 application, I see I have three options:

- I apply as a Chemical Engineer without a relevant skills assessment. This would cap my points at 70 to 75.
- I apply as a Chemical Engineer, but I would need to frame my work experience in this manner as much as possible. I could only get away with so much as my work is much more closely related to electrical engineering.
- I apply as an Electrical Engineer. I would then also need to complete a full Competency Demonstration Report. The requirements and admin of this are very large, and my work experience would likely be subject to much more scrutiny.

Has anyone been in a similar situation or have any advice? I cannot find much online, but I’m leaning towards the second option above.

Thanks
